Satori Adventures therefore desires to provide guideline for the first-time visitors or travelers so that they can comfortably start the process to book the selected package legally. Is the company genuine and authorized from Government of Nepal, Office of the Company Registrar, Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Rastra Bank ‒Central Bank of Nepal (authorized for foreign currency), Permanent Account Number (PAN), and the Department of Cottage & Small Industries). Are they financially secured and environmentally conscious? We advise them to make sure about these formalities because there are some companies in Nepal that have been running business without abiding by the rules and regulation of the Government. Some companies were once registered but by now their licenses have already been expired and yet they have providing the services illegally.

On many occasions, Government of Nepal and Trekking Agency Association of Nepal have found that many foreigners’ tour operators, NGOs and INGOs have been involved in directly operating tours, trekking, and mountaineering holiday adventures without having government license and abiding by the Government rules. It has been also found that many individuals, freelance guides and porters have been arranging trips illegally by creating their own personal website. We have observed that many trekkers and climbers face a host of problems once they arrive in Kathmandu as they lack adequate information. Many of them file complaints to Government of Nepal and Trekking Agency Association of Nepal for legal action such as the refund of the advanced payment. There is hardly any justice given to the cheated clients. Thus, so as to prevent all these probable problems we request our travelers to check the company before booking any trip to the Himalayas.

Dhampus Peak Climbing FAQs

Climbers choose any of the mountains in the Himalayas to begin Himalayan peak climbing journey some of which are technically easier and some are not. Each peak, however, has its own importance and unique characteristics.

Pisang Peak (6,091 m / 19,970 ft) in Annapurna region or Island Peak (6,189 m / 20,305 ft) are peaks with technical difficulty, whereas Dhampus Peak (6,012 m/ 19,724 ft) in Annapurna region and Mera Peak (6,476 m / 21,247 ft) are less technical peaks beginners choose to climb in the Himalayas. For all these peaks no prior climbing experience is required. Chulu West (6,584 m/ 21,601 ft) in Annapurna region and Lobuche Peak 6,119 m (20,075 ft) in Everest region are slightly more technical than these peaks and requires some more skills and endurance.

Those who prefer completely non-technical climb, yet looking for gaining higher altitude summit experience, then Dhampus peak is also ideal. Whereas, for some technical experience in the Himalayas Pisang peak, Chulu West and East in Annapurna region and Island peak in Everest region are perfect.

There are many 6,000 m peaks scattered across different regions of the world – China/Tibet, India, Pakistan (Karakoram), South America (Andes), Europe and Russia (Caucasus), and Central Asia (Pamir). So, it is natural to wonder: Why choose Nepal for climbing a 6,000 m peak? Here, we give some key reasons why Nepal is one of the best destinations for a 6,000 m peak climbing experience.

First and foremost, Nepal is home to the world’s highest mountains, where eight of the fourteen 8,000 m peaks are located. The country also has more than 1,300 mountain peaks above 6,000 m. This offers a wide range of options at different difficulty levels – many of which are ideal for beginner and intermediate climbers.

The Government of Nepal has categorized several 6,000 m peaks as ‘trekking peaks,’ meaning they involve little or no technical climbing. Even peaks that require some technical skills are generally easier than many others around the world, making them excellent training grounds for future high-altitude expeditions.

Additionally, Nepal provides a streamlined permit system, world-renowned Sherpa climbing guides with exceptional expertise in safety and high-altitude terrain, and added charm of breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural diversity throughout the journey – all of which make Nepalese mountains a premium climbing destination.

For all these reasons, Nepal is ultimate place to begin your climbing adventure and take next step toward achieving your mountaineering dreams in the majestic Himalayas.

Dhampus Peak (6,012m / 19,724ft) can be a perfect mountain for even beginners looking to start Himalayan climbing journey with guided support and if you are strong trekker. It is less technical peak (said low to moderate) by Himalayan standards, meaning it does not require advanced mountaineering experience.

The route to Dhampus Peak is well established, with teahouse lodges available until very close to Base Camp in Jomsom-Muktinath trekking trail. It thus provides rewarding trekking and climbing experience together. But, remember this is not easy to climb as the altitude is high, long summit days, and can meet with harsh weather conditions in summit.

Island Peak (6,189 m / 20,305 ft)-located near Everest Base Camp trekking trail – is more technical than Dhampus Peak in Himalayan standard. Island climb usually includes a fixed-rope section near the summit, featuring steep snow and ice slopes (up to 60-70° in places). Climbers typically ascend around 100-150 meters of fixed rope on the final ice headwall, making it technically engaging.

Mera Peak (6,476 m / 21,247 ft) is higher in altitude but less technical to Dhampus peak. Route to the summit mainly follows snow slope of around 30-35°. Short fixed-rope section for safety is required near the summit only.

Dhampus Peak (6,012 m / 19,724ft) is bit more technical than peak to climb with slope of 25-30° with moderate exposure. There are sections of snow, rock, ice in small part but not seriously technical climb like others. Rope is required in short sections and mixed terrain.

Pisang Peak (6,091m / 19,970 ft), Chulu East (6,419 m /21,060 ft) and are located in Manang valley. These peaks are more technical peak than Dhampus peak in terms of snow, rock, ice climbing.

Tharpu Chuili also known as ‘Tent Peak’ is less than 6,000 m as it is 5,663 m (18,579 ft) in Annapurna Sanctuary. Although, it is less than 6,000 m, it is also technical peak and this climbing can provide you excellent exposure and experience of mountain climbing in the Himalayas.

Choosing Annapurna and Everest has own distinct features. Everest region is renowned for mount Everest, the highest point on earth along with other numbers of towering mountain peaks. Annapurna region on the other hand, was once nominated the world’s best trekking trail. So, choice is yours where you head.

A mountain cannot be labeled as entirely ‘safe’ or ‘unsafe’ on its own. However, in general terms, there are few factors to consider for safety measures such as altitude of the peak, crevasses, avalanche risk, serac danger, exposure in higher altitudes, and rescue possibilities. The terrain and route to the peak also make some differences.

If we check these parameters, Dhampus Peak can rank comparatively safe peak for beginners. This peak has less objective risks.

We claim that with support of experienced organizers and professional Sherpa guides, any peak can be climbed safely. Some issues to be taken into considerations are: proper acclimatization, pre-climbing training and fitness, basic know-how to use some climbing gears, quality equipment, expert Sherpa guide.

Dhampus Peak is located within Annapurna Conservation Area in the Annapurna region of central Nepal next to Mt. Dhaulagiri I (8,167 m/ 26,795 ft) and Dhaulagiri II (7,751 m /25,430 ft), Tukuche Peak (6,920 m / 22,703 ft) and opposite of Annapurna I (8,091 m /26,545 ft) and Annapurna II (7,937 m /26,040 ft).

Well established and world renowned trekking trail – Mustang Jomsom Trek in Annapurna circuit trail – not only makes this peak accessible but also scenic travel in the Himalayas.

Dhampus Peak climbing begins from trekking to Marpha – a small town in Lower Mustang valley along the river Kali Gandaki. You trek off to camp Yak Kharka – a hut for Yak herders – from here, and climb to Thapa Pass at 5,244 m/17,204 ft. This camp is the Base camp as well.

Altitude of campsite can vary ±50-70 m while finding suitable and safe location.
